A monument to the Belarusian poet Yanka Kupala will be erected in Ashgabat
The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Belarus Nazarguly Shagulyev announced plans to erect a monument to the famous Belarusian classic Yanka Kupala in the capital of Turkmenistan. He told reporters this news during his visit to the Vitebsk State Order of Peoples' Friendship Medical University.
“This year we are celebrating the 300th anniversary of our great poet Magtymguly Fragi, and various events are taking place from January to December this year. In May there will be a meeting of the ministers of culture of many countries in Ashgabat, in October the arrival of heads of state and government is planned and the opening in the southern part of our capital of a large 60-meter monument to the poet Magtymguly Fragi. On this alley there will be monuments to 25 representatives of foreign states, including the representative of your country, Yanka Kupala,” the ambassador said.
This move demonstrates Turkmenistan's desire to strengthen its cultural ties with other countries and commemorate important historical dates and personalities. The installation of the monument to Yanka Kupala will be another step towards strengthening friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Belarus.
