The establishment of cooperation between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Amirabad is becoming stronger
On February 14, 2024, within the framework of the “Maritime Economy of Iran” forum, representatives of “Turkmendenizdaryayollary” made a business visit to the special economic zone of the seaport of Amirabad, which is located on the coast of the Caspian Sea.
Representatives of Turkmenistan were welcomed by Mr. Nouruzin - Head of the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran in Mazandaran, Mr. Musapur - Director General of the Port and Maritime Organization, Mr. Fuladin - Manager of the Mazandaran Economic Zone, Mr. Ali Akbar Sayyad - Deputy Director General of the Port Authority and the maritime organization on port issues, as well as the representative of the Mazandaran Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Hussein. Then, negotiations between the Turkmen-Iranian parties took place in the conference room of the administrative building of the port.
During the negotiations, through a presentation, the services and potential of the Turkmenbashi international seaport and the Turkmen national merchant fleet were introduced.
Then, issues of resuming shipping between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Amirabad, in particular establishing a feeder connection, as well as other issues of cooperation were discussed. During the negotiations, the parties proposed to develop cooperation in the field of international trade and strengthen the positions of the two ports in international transport corridors.
The Iranian side reported that in the near future it plans to sign the “Agreement on fraternal seaports between the Turkmenbashi international seaport and the port special economic zone of Amirabad.”
Currently, the port of Amirabad is one of the largest ports in northern Iran. The port began construction in 1996, received a special economic zone in 1997, and began operations in 2001. Amirbad port has 15 berths and a large number of silos. The port's annual throughput is 7.5 million tons. The port is home to wood (MDF) manufacturing, reinforcement manufacturing and other operations that attract customers.
