The Turkmen delegation advocated strengthening peace and trust during the IPU hearings

The Turkmen delegation, during the annual hearings of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (IPC), advocated strengthening international peace and trust, in particular those initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan at the global and regional levels.

“Parliamentary hearings brought together more than 300 parliamentarians and experts who exchanged views on their views on challenges to global peace and security, ways to prevent and resolve conflicts through the mechanisms of parliamentary diplomacy and mediation. The particular importance of addressing the root causes of conflict, such as poverty, inequality and marginalization, was emphasized. The role of national parliaments in promoting and ensuring the accountability of governments in making decisions aimed at maintaining and establishing peace and stability was also noted,” the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN said in a statement.

The hearing, organized in New York, was held under the theme “Ending Conflict: Recipes for a Peaceful Future.” The participants' attention was focused on the formation of a “Pact for the Future”, a possible outcome document of the UN Future Summit in September this year. The Turkmen delegation spoke on the topic “New threats to peace and technology.”

The delegates emphasized that the country is currently actively promoting interparliamentary cooperation within the framework of not only the IPU, but also the OSCE Assembly, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and other international organizations. Currently, productive cooperation is developing within the framework of 48 parliamentary friendship groups.
