Fire extinguishing exercises on the high seas were successfully conducted in Turkmenistan
The Turkmendenizderyayollary agency received a Certificate of Honor from the administration of the Balkan region for successfully conducting fire extinguishing exercises on the high seas and demonstrating high preparedness for emergency situations, the agency’s press service reports.
The exercise, which involved simulating an oil spill and a fire on a tanker on the high seas, took place in three stages. During the exercise, operators of the Vessel Control Center of the International Turkmenbashi Sea Port receive a signal about the incident and inform government departments about the situation. Rapid response forces are then deployed to extinguish the fire and minimize environmental damage.
The firefighting vessel “Yildirim” arrives at the scene and successfully extinguishes the fire. Next, specialists determine the extent of the damage and carry out the assessment necessary to carry out repair and restoration work.
The exercises showed Turkmenistan’s high preparedness for emergencies on the high seas against the backdrop of the country’s growing merchant fleet and increasing trade with the Caspian states.
